The Bugatti Veyron has re-claimed the title of fastest production car in the world. Designed and developed by Volkswagen, the car was named after Pierre Veyron, the French driver of the 1930s.

The Veyron has a ten radiators, 4 for engine cooling, 1 for the intercoolers, 2 for the air conditioning system, 1 for the transmission, 1 for the differential and 1 for engine oil. The incredible engine measures 8.0 litres or 488 CI in a W16 formation, equivalent to two narrow-angle V8 engines. The engine is fed by four turbochargers and has a square bore and stroke. The Super Sport is the final and ultimate version of the car.

The Koenigsegg CCX is a devlopment of the CCR, the new car using Koenigsegg’s own engine instead of the previous Ford Modular engine. The new engine would run on 91 octane fuel, and would meet California emission standards. The CCX achieved a record 0-186-0 mph time in 29.2 seconds, beating the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR 722, Porsche 997 and the Alpina B6 S. The engine is a 4.7 liter 288 cu in V8, with boosted by two centrifugal superchargers producing 806 bhp.

The Lamborghini Murcielago is powered by a 6.5 liter V12 driving all four wheels car. The car has scissor doors and independent double-wishbone suspension. The Murcielago accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds. The designer cited the B-2 stealth bomber, the Wally 118 WallyPower yacht as inspiration for the design.

The Aston Martin DBS is powered by a 6.0 liter V12. This engine was also used in the DBR9 and DBRS9 racing cars. The DBS produces 510 hp achieving 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 191 mph.

The Mercedes SLS AMG uses the M159 engine. The car is the first to be designed in house by AMG and is the Mercedes spiritual successor to the 300SL Gullwing.

The McLaren MP4-12C is yet to be released. Due in 2011 the MP4-12C promises to feature a carbon fibre composite chassis. Power will come from a mid-mounted McLaren 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo engine developing around 600 bhp. The car will make use of Formula 1 technology such as brake steer.

The Pagani Zonda is an Italian car built in extremely limited numbers. The 7.3 liter V12 is supplied by Mercedes-Benz AMG. Performance is brutal with acceleration of 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of up to 220 mph.

The Chevrolet Corvette C6 features all new bodywork with exposed headlamps and a larger 6.2 liter (380 cu in) engine delivering 400 bhp.

The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a classic grand tourer (GT) coupe. The 612 replaced the 456M and is powered by a 5.7 liter F133 V12. The design echoes the 1954 375 MM.

The Porsche Carrera GT uses a 5.7 litre V10 engine producing 612 hp. Acceleration of 0-100 mph is a scarcely believable 6.8 seconds.

The Maserati MC12 was built to compete in the FIA GT Championship. Just 50 cars were built and sold fpr 600 000 Euros. The MC12 is closely related to the Enzo. The Enzo though is smaller lighter and faster with a top speed of 217 mph whereas the MC12 is 205 mph.

The Audi R8 is fitted with a 4.2 liter V8 which is basically the same engine used in the Audi B7 RS4 or the Lamborghini Gallardo derived 5 liter V10. Transmission is either the Lamborghini six-speed gearbox or the Audi R tronic semi-automatic.

The Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR was built by AMG for racing in the FIA GT Championship. The road cars were necessary in order to meet homologation rules. The race car was upgraded in 1998 for Le Mans and renamed the CLK LM.

This version is optimized for the iPad.
